Education

A major part of reducing the impact of road trauma is stopping it from happening in the first place. RTSTV offers training to the community aimed at the prevention of road trauma.

Road Trauma Awareness Seminar

The Road Trauma Awareness Seminar is a unique collaboration between the Road Trauma Support Team Victoria and the Victorian Magistrates' Courts.

During the road trauma awareness workshop, traffic offenders will be asked to consider the following:

  • Small things can have big consequences. Seemingly small traffic infringement or mistakes can, in some situations, have life changing consequences.
  • Anyone at anytime. Road collisions are an everyday occurrence. Even if you are 'doing all the right things' you cannot know what is happening in other vehicles. Road trauma happens out of the blue.
  • Take Responsibility. In this section, traffic offenders are asked what they have learnt and what they will do differently in the future.

Traffic offenders hear the moving and poignant personal accounts of our volunteers who share their own experience of how road trauma affected their lives.

Traffic offenders are directed by the Magistrate's Court to attend a RTSTV run Road Trauma Awareness Seminar. These seminars run for two hours and are offered at locations in metropolitan Melbourne and at regional centres.

If you have been directed by the Magistrate's Court or your solicitor to attend a Road Trauma Awareness Seminar, please read these instructions.
